House of Josty

What began as a confectionery in 1824 has taken on another life at the edge of Copenhagen's Frederiksberg Gardens.

Originally established by the Josty family, the property became a gathering place associated with the Danish royal court before passing through several different uses. In 2026, Copenhagen-based Food Studio reintroduced the historic building as a six-room hotel, daytime café, and venue for gatherings.

The interiors bring together furniture from Danish design houses GUBI and Frama, vintage pieces, and paintings that have remained in the building for generations. Rather than attempting to recreate a particular period, the selection allows the property's different histories to coexist.

The food operation is equally considered. The café serves seasonal breakfast and lunch, sourcing ingredients from local producers and Food Studio's regenerative kitchen garden at Farm House.

Accommodation is only one part of the business. The house continues to accommodate celebrations, cultural events, and everyday visits from people who may never spend a night there.

It is a thoughtful example of an existing institution evolving without abandoning the purpose that made it relevant in the first place.
